Dense coconut fiber privacy and wind screen: screening without walling off

The right level of screening

A privacy screen that is too opaque turns a terrace into a corridor: you gain privacy at the expense of light and the sense of spaciousness. The dense weave is positioned exactly where it counts—blocking direct views from the street or a neighboring property while allowing light to filter through and maintaining a sense of depth looking out toward the garden. It is the ideal choice for the vast majority of situations: shared boundary fences, dividing two areas of the same plot, or concealing utility areas or compost bins. If, however, you require complete screening—due to close proximity to neighbors, facing windows, or an exposed pool—the ultra-dense coconut screen offers greater visual blockage.

Windbreak: permeability offers better protection than opacity

This is the most counter-intuitive point, yet the most important one to understand before buying. A completely airtight barrier does not stop the wind; it deflects it. Gusts pass over the top and crash down on the other side, creating turbulence that is often more unpleasant than having no protection at all. A permeable weave, on the other hand, slows and breaks up the airflow, creating a more stable sheltered zone while subjecting the screen to far less stress. This explains why a dense coconut windbreak holds firm where a solid panel might tear or rip away from its mountings—especially in regions prone to strong winds like the Mistral or Tramontane.

Installation on wire mesh, railings, or existing structures

It is attached using cable ties or binding wire to an existing support—such as rigid mesh, flexible fencing panels, fence posts, or a pergola frame. Plan for an attachment point every 30 to 40 centimeters along the edges and at the top; the density of the fixings—far more than the material’s inherent strength—determines how well it holds up over time. A support that moves will cause the screen to age prematurely, regardless of its quality. Dimensions, custom sizing, and aging

The material can be cut to size, but a panel manufactured to the correct dimensions from the start will hold up better than one that has been trimmed down; we offer custom sizing for unusual lengths, corner sections, and height-restricted areas. Regarding lifespan, coconut fiber is a natural material that evolves over time: the color darkens slightly during the first few seasons before stabilizing, and this patina is part of the product’s appeal. It withstands moisture but not standing water; a screen installed in direct contact with the ground will deteriorate from the bottom up.
