Coconut fiber walkway: a natural access mat for sand, grass, and gravel

Creating a walkable path where the ground is unstable is exactly what the coconut fiber walkway is designed for. Whether rolled out over sand, grass, gravel, or even a concrete slab, this coconut fiber mat stabilizes your footing, prevents sinking, and protects bare feet from scorching sand in the heat of summer. Its 15 mm thick herringbone weave provides a firm, non-slip surface that retains its natural look season after season. From private beaches, campsites, hotels, and gardens to poolside paths, leisure areas, and event sites—wherever you need to connect two points without pouring concrete, it serves as an excellent alternative to a permanent hard-surface path.

Three widths, cut to length: a path sized just right

The coconut fiber walkway is available in widths of 80 cm, 100 cm, and 120 cm. It is cut to order by the meter or in 0.50 m increments, with a minimum length of 1.50 m and a maximum of 30 m per order—enough to cover anything from a short path between a terrace and a gate to a full dune crossing. The 80 cm width suits single-file pedestrian traffic, the 100 cm width allows two people to pass each other, and the 120 cm width accommodates heavy foot traffic or the passage of a cart. For paths longer than 30 m, multiple rolls can be laid edge-to-edge without a visible seam, as the herringbone pattern naturally conceals the joints.

Suitable for PRM access and light vehicles

Its density—1,800 g/m² (dry)—allows it to withstand heavy, continuous traffic without losing its shape. It allows for the movement of people with reduced mobility—provided the slope remains under 10%—as well as the passage of light vehicles. The product itself can be laid on slopes of up to 15%. When placed on sand, it distributes weight and prevents wheelchair or stroller wheels from sinking in, making it a popular solution for seasonal beach access paths.

Quick and easy installation and removal

Supplied in a roll with instructions, the access path simply unrolls into place without the need for tools or ground preparation. It is just as easy to remove, roll up, and store, making it ideal for seasonal setups that are dismantled in the autumn. In windy or high-traffic areas, a few fasteners at the ends are all that is needed to keep it secure. A natural fiber resistant to rain and moisture

Coconut fiber is rot-proof: it does not decay and does not retain water. When exposed to rain or sea spray, the mat becomes heavier—increasing in weight to 3,600 g/m²—but dries in the sun without deteriorating. It also provides insulation against the heat or cold of the underlying ground, which explains the comfortable feel underfoot during hot weather. Made from repurposed coconut husks and produced in India by our long-standing partner, this material is bio-based, 100% biodegradable, and free from chemical treatments.

Minimal maintenance

An occasional sweep and regular shaking to remove sand and twigs are all it takes to restore the mat’s appearance. For stains, washing with black soap and a little water is sufficient.
