Women’s well-being in the company at the heart of its CSR approach
Les Ombrières perpetuate an ancestral craftsmanship. And when it comes to heritage, we are well aware of the human element behind it. The hands that make them, pamper them, and bring them to you. These hands are mostly women. Therefore, we questioned their well-being within the company, in an innovative way.
Approaching social responsibility from the perspective of women
To inaugurate our 2024 commitments in social and environmental responsibility (CSR), we decided to explore an unusual path. That of women in the company. We are not talking about their position, but rather the conditions in which they work and a subject that affects them every month, their periods.
It was a bit daring, let’s admit, and far removed from our core business. However, to provide our shades for many more years, we chose to lift the veil on menstruation in our team.
The rule, talking about periods
This Thursday, January 18, our team gathered around a Menstrual Mural led by Gaëlle Demouth from Soroera. Women and men alike. We talked about periods and their social and environmental issues, the waste generated, their cost to the community and to women. Finally, we talked daily: do periods challenge our teams daily?
To be honest, it was strange to discuss menstruation in the company. Yet, the topic took us much further. What excuse do we choose to say we’re really unwell during our periods? How do our education and society make us not dare even talk about periods? What do menstrual waste and their management inspire in relation to our shades?
A menstrual mural, for what results?
Offering this workshop to the teams had multiple virtues. The first, opening a dialogue on menstruation to simplify the daily lives of women within the team of Les Ombrières. Knowing who suffers from their periods to the point of being unable to work. Knowing what obstacles may have stood in the way of one or another. Why? To find solutions when necessary, to bring mutual understanding within the team and to stop saying “I’m sick” instead of “I’m in bed because of my periods.”
Innovating in responsibility, a firm desire to innovate
Starting the year with a workshop on periods, yes it is bold. It’s precisely the impulse Les Ombrières wish to give to their Corporate Social Responsibility approach. Also, the workshop was chosen for its novelty, both in terms of format and subject.
A heritage company that moves
Les Ombrières may perpetuate the tradition of shade sails, but they are committed to a social responsibility approach for today and tomorrow. This awareness approach around periods is resolutely focused on current societal issues, creativity, and novelty. This initiates the actions that will undoubtedly follow in terms of CSR within the team.
